Joy:I've given the Lady Conchs a couple of shout outs this season Remember that triple play and I've been tracking alumni Bella Perez, Marina Goins, Ty Marie Cervantes and Scarlett Niles who are playing college ball. But it's about time the 2025 Lady Conchs were featured in an episode of their own. The girls are dominating in the playoffs, playing the best softball when it matters most, because bottom line winning is the only option to keep playing and hold that state championship trophy over their heads, and that is the mission. This program has been scratching at the door and earning respect throughout the state for years. Well, it's time. And who better than Riley Harnish, macy and Lily Gage, Ariana Garcia, Aaliyah McLeod, Chloe Congos, Lucy Katz, Kalia Cervantes, shiloh Sanchez, mia Wallner, Kalia Dickerson and Brianna Brenner, along with seniors Scott Sterling, Nina Manareza, Alexa Condelaa, Vera Roger and Tavin Gage would love to finish as champions. I'm a little out in front, so let's take a look back at how they got us here.
Joy:The Lady Conchs finished the regular season with a 12-7 record, stacking wins and runs in chunks. Half of the wins included 10 or more runs and they shut out opponents regularly off the strong arm of sophomore sensation Brianna let's Hang Some K's. Brenner, who pairs well with junior catcher Shiloh Throw 'Em Out Sanchez, the best pitcher catcher duo in the state. And there was solid offensive support all season with with senior Roger, candela and Gage leading the way. Add in production from sophomore Lily Gage and the fab freshmen Lucy Katz and Aaliyah McLeod. Coach Jason Garcia and his staff led his team to the number one seed in the district and the Lady dominated the district tournament, scoring 24 runs off of 20 hits, with nearly every batter getting in on the action. Raja and Candela were standouts at the plate and Brenner earned the wins as she had opponents swinging and missing during both games, and winning the district title earned a home game for round one of the regional tournament. Winning the district title earned a home game for round one of the regional tournament.
Joy:Conch fans showed up strong for the red out packing the backyard like a family reunion. On the 4th of July, the Lady put on a show on both sides of the ball, scoring seven runs off of ten hits, highlighted by two home runs. The first was a solo shot off the bat of Sanchez. The ball hit the flying Conch Republic flag over the centerfield fence to get the scoring started and remind the Baron Collier Cougars this was our house. Then Sterling launched a two-run bomb that brought the fans to the feet and buried the Cougars hopes to make a comeback. Because of Conch's ace, Brianna Brenner was lights out, striking out 14 and tying a school record held by Brianne Kite, who was in attendance. The fan cam also spotted Lady Conch alumni Bella Perez and Marina Goins, as well as the 2025 Conch baseball team.
Joy:Coach Garcia should be pleased with his roster. Every player has had quality and productive at-bats in the postseason and looked very confident at the plate when their numbers are caught. But it's defense that wins championships, so the ladies must continue to play strong defense. Behind the arm of Brennan, with McLeod and Sterling covering the corners, Tavon Gage and Cervantes up the middle, Roger Lily Gage and Condella blanketing the outfield and Sanchez commanding respect from the catcher spot my money's on the Lady Conchs. The remainder of the playoffs will likely have the team on the road as they step closer and closer to the prize. The first opponent is the Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks in the semifinals. The matching 15-7 record would indicate the teams are evenly matched. But be clear the Lady Conchs have no match and they packing Conch Pride Because we all know you don't leave home without it.
